How To Choose Comfortable Shoes

The most comfortable shoes are usually those that you have worn for years until they perfectly contour to your foot. With a little patience, you can find a new pair of shoes that is just as comfortable as your favorite pair of worn-out sneakers. Whether you need dress shoes, evening shoes, sneakers, sandals, or any other style, choosing comfortable shoes is possible.

The number one determinant of shoe comfort is sizing. If your shoes are too big or too small, they will not be comfortable. Besides the length, also consider the width of the shoe. If you have particularly narrow or wide feet, you may want to look for shoes in special widths. Some shoe designers only offer one standard width; others offer their shoe styles in several different widths to accommodate different feet. If you don’t know how your feet measure up, you can measure them yourself or go to a shoe store. Finding shoes in the appropriate size and width is your first step to choosing comfortable shoes.

Choose the best material that you can afford. Soft and supple leather will conform to your foot, while inexpensive synthetics will not get much more comfortable over time. Some designers are known for using comfortable materials, while others are known to focus more on the overall design of the shoe, and less on the comfort of the wearer.

Some styles are usually more comfortable than others. Sky-high stiletto heels may have sex appeal, but they aren’t usually comfortable. Some designers choose style over comfort, but you can still pick “fashion statement” shoes that are comfortable. Flats are usually more comfortable than heels, although it’s important that the flats you choose have appropriate arch support. If you plan to wear these shoes for hours at a time, or will be walking or standing for long periods of time, comfort is particularly important. Carefully consider whether you’re willing to sacrifice your comfort for a pair of high heels.

No matter what style of shoe you choose, comfortable shoes can be made even more comfortable through the use of shoe inserts. These cushioned insoles provide another layer between the ground and the soles of your feet, making it much more comfortable, especially if you routinely walk long distances or are on your feet for hours.

To determine whether a pair of shoes is comfortable, you must try them on. There’s just no way to tell from the outside just how comfortable they will be. Try them on at the end of the day, because your feet tend to swell slightly during the day. Always try them on with the same type of socks you’re likely to wear them with.

Finding a comfortable pair of shoes doesn’t have to be a challenge if you know what to look for when buying them. You can even find comfortable shoes with high heels and trendy details; comfort isn’t just limited to sensible shoes.
